In Punishment to Support: The Need to Align Animal Control Enforcement with the Human Social Justice Movement, the article discussed the need to have policies reformed and the harm that could result within the socially disadvantaged, low-income communities. The author, Sloane Hawes, he does not vary across the area of disciplines and actually found other articles that he wrote that are parallel to my topic. I believe this is partially why he was listed as the primary author on the article and has made a significant amount of contribution via other published articles that are a means of validation of an established criterion.
As for credentials of the author, Sloane Hawes, I searched Scopus in my search in discovering what makes me consider Hawes an expert or not. I found that Sloane M. Hawes is the author on six documents and has 20 citations. However, the was one that she wrote titled A quantitative study of Denver’s Breed-Specific Legislation that was not included on the Scopus. On ResearchGate, it shows that she has 17 publications and 34 citations and almost all the articles are focused on animal welfare. Hawes has her graduate in social work and is a Research Associate II that scopes around the examination of the social and animal welfare. Was there an ethical or conflicting interest? No, they do not share any conflict of interest nor did I locate any history of retraction. But I think it would be kind of weird if they did and they did author together, but I could see that being of value if there was to be a section of pros and cons or compare / contrast.
I found this article quite informative as this not only provided another outlet for me to build upon in future research on but it gives me more data and information that I can build upon to strengthen my future paper. Now I just need to see about finding the time to do the paper as I fell that I have a good idea and grasp on the direction and research to conduct.
